Trying to capture the essence of Georgian culture and hospitality in a blog post is like trying to describe the history of the world in a tweet.
Wine is intricately woven into the cultural fabric of Georgia. The Georgian winemaking method of burying an earthenware vessel called a qvevri in the ground creates wines with unique amber colour that has the structure of a white wine with some characteristics of red wine, due to the whole skin maceration (the wine sitting on the skins for the whole fermentation).
Issue 22 of The Cellar Door (2015) explores strange and unusual grape varieties. These are grape varieties that don’t fall into the varieties we are used to seeing. Because we are creatures of habit, we tend to shy away from new grape varieties that we don’t recognize. In the feature, “The Unusual Suspects,” we de-mystify new and unusual grape varieties by comparing them to the grapes we are used to drinking: Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
In this space, we will be exploring the things that make life great and unite our clients: in short, the good life.
