The Unusual Suspects: Try these wines!

Issue 22 of The Cellar Door (2015) explores strange and unusual grape varieties. These are grape varieties that don’t fall into the varieties we are used to seeing. Because we are creatures of habit, we tend to shy away from new grape varieties that we don’t recognize. In the feature, “The Unusual Suspects,” we de-mystify new and unusual grape varieties by comparing them to the grapes we are used to drinking: Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

In addition to the suggested wines in the issue feature, here are some additional strange and unusual wines you should try (organized by light, medium and full bodied). Scroll over the images for the full names of each wine. All wines are available at Banville & Jones Wine Co.
