Long Weekend Wine Picks

The long weekend is upon us! If you are making a wine run to Banville & Jones tonight (or on the way to the lake), here are some great, affordable picks for the weekend!

BUBBLES: All you need to turn a day into a celebration are bubbles! When you stick your nose in the Cima da Conegliano Prosecco Frizzante (Italy, $18.99) you will discover bread dough and honeysuckle aromas, followed by almond and pear notes on the palate. This is a light and breezy favourite with long-lasting bubbles that pairs perfectly with popcorn!

WHITE: I just tried this iOVE Trebbiano by Umberto Cesari (Italy, $14.99) for the first time last night (it’s new to the store). Don’t let the pale colour fool you: this white has an intense fruit-rich bouquet with floral notes. It’s great with tapas or cheese.

ROSE: The De Bos 47 Varietal Rosé (South Africa, $18.99) is a dry rosé—but it’s so much more than that! Made from 47 different varieties of grape, you can taste red berries, cranberries, cherries, and pomegranates in this wine, and yet it’s still very delicate. And to make your tasting experience that much better, Bosman Family Vineyards, the producer, has an incredible Fair Trade program that funds social equity projects on their estate for their 260 full-time employees (who are also co-owners), including a community preschool.

RED: The oak-aged Veramonte Carmenère (Chile, $16.99) boasts luscious notes of plum and blackberry with a hint of violets, herbs, baking spices, and vanilla. The vineyards, in Chile’s Colchagua Valley, are organically farmed and currently undergoing the 3-year certification process.
